TxDOT began treating heavily traveled roadways in Austin on Monday, spraying brine on the pavement. Brine is a mix of water and salt that prevents ice and snow from sticking to the highway. TxDOT officials are warning drivers that just because the roads are treated doesn't mean they will be passable.

The National weather service has issued a freeze warning that starts at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday and ends 9:00 a.m. This could be dangerous for drivers.

Roads are being prepared over the next two days in anticipation of icy winter storms across Texas. Meteorologists are now forecasting an increased certainty of a wintry mix between Wednesday and Friday.

The Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department is already in prep and pretreatment mode. Huge amounts of sand are getting loaded up and ready.
