Brady Tkachuk scored 55 seconds into overtime and the Ottawa Senators extended their win streak to five games with a 3-2 victory against the Calgary Flames.

Brady Tkachuk took a nasty gash to his mouth when he was high-sticked by Calgary’s Michael Backlund in the game on Thursday. He also lost a tooth. He needed nine stitches to close up the deep cut, but still returned to the game. And he scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

If Ottawa continues to underachieve, though, the questions will persist. The no-movement clause in Tkachuk’s contract kicks in on July 1, and it’s ultimately on the Senators to build a team that will prove Tkachuk right in committing and reaffirming his loyalty to the franchise.

But now, from an individual standpoint, receiving the hardest worker award at the event might be the favourite thing a young player receives this Christmas season. The new medal for the hardest worker in each game of the tournament has been named after Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.

Brady Tkachuk scored 1:46 into overtime and the Ottawa Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 for their first three-game winning streak of the season.
