“The body of 32-year-old Janis Timma was discovered in the entrance hall of an apartment building in downtown Moscow. According to unconfirmed reports, the cause of death was a suicide,” an unnamed emergency official told Russian News Agency, TASS, adding that a cell phone was found near Timma’s body.

In more recent times, he faced criticism after revealing his plans of playing professionally in Russia, despite the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Tributes have poured in for Timma, who was previously a member of the Orlando Magic’s minor league organization.

The former basketball player had been drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 60th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
