Mother nature has added insult to injury with 1 - 3 inches of snow accumulation atop already snow-packed roadways Friday. The mix has some Kansas City-area school districts canceling classes for now the fifth and final day this week.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 5 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday for portions of east-central Kansas and central and west-central Missouri. Counties included in the advisory are Miami County,

School districts in Missouri currently must provide 1,044 hours of instruction, or approximately 166 days, per school year. Some districts build in snow days to their calendar, while others opt to use up to 36 virtual learning hours instead. The state caps the number of weather makeup days at 10, forgiving any above that cap.

Kansas City is gearing up for the possibility of more snow, while still clearing snow-packed streets from last weekend's blizzard.
