Celine Song’s romantic tale, starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, offers thrilling dialogue but some puzzling silences.
By this metric alone, Celine Song’s “Materialists” is something else entirely. Song’s characters tell us bluntly what their salary is, or how much their apartment costs. Economic reality, in fact, drives the narrative.
Dakota Johnson is trading in her go-to transparent for elegant silk. After recently stepping out in a fabulous see-through skirt and top set, the Materialists star opted for a black silk dress for the New York City premiere of her new film, starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
Written and directed by Oscar nominee Celine Song, “Materialists” follows Johnson’s character Lucy, a New York City matchmaker who finds herself at the center of a love triangle between her former flame, played by Evans, and a new love interest, played by Pascal. The film hits theaters June 13.
