The latest poll from Data for Progress found that nearly six in 10 American voters would blame the GOP or Trump himself for a shutdown—not Democrats. In total, 32 percent said they would blame Trump, while 27 percent said they would blame Republicans in Congress if the government shuts down. Only 34 percent said they would blame Democrats.
The measure faces opposition from Democrats, who say it needs to include their priorities to win their votes. Republicans hope to pass it this week ahead of a Sept. 30 shutdown deadline.
