Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is a step closer to signing into law a voucher-like program that would use taxpayer money to help families pay for private schools. The bill, a centerpiece of Abbott’s legislative agenda,

“For the first time in Texas history, our state has passed a universal school choice bill out of both chambers in the Texas Legislature,” Abbott said. “This is an extraordinary victory for the thousands of parents who have advocated for more choices when it comes to the education of their children.”

The legislation approved $10,000 annual funding for Texas families to allocate toward private education while homeschoolers could access up to $2,000.
