At Friday afternoon's funeral, West York Borough Police Chief Matthew Millsaps honored the heroic and selfless final acts of Officer Andrew Duarte.

Their son, West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte, responded to an active shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital, where a man had taken the staff of the ICU hostage. Five people — a doctor, a nurse, a custodian and two officers, suffered injuries. Duarte was mortally wounded.

Police Officer Andrew Duarte choose to work in West York. They were very glad he did. And now he's gone, killed in the line of duty.
