By Michele Kambas NICOSIA, March 6 (Reuters) - A drone strike this week on a British air base in Cyprus has renewed calls for an end to British military presence on the Mediterranean island as many fear being dragged into the wider Iran conflict.
Cyprus temporarily closed its airspace on Wednesday after a suspicious flying object was spotted coming in from Lebanon. The government gave the all-clear shortly afterwards.
The State Department is citing the “threat of armed conflict” and limited options for help as reason to reconsider trips to this European destination.
“Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people."
