Reading OBD codes requires an OBD scanner, which can cost between $30 and $60. It’s a handheld tool with a 16-pin trapezoidal connector that plugs into the vehicle and interprets the OBD code.

We recently got our hands on the new GoTech mobile OBD-II diagnostic tool and put it through its paces on several trucks in our fleet. The GoTech is more than just a code reader, though.

The ZR8 is able to reset oil lights, perform battery/alternator system checks, and erase ABS codes for domestic vehicles. A trip-cycle procedure and data streaming are also included.
