By Balazs Szekely, Associate Editor. New South Wales, Australia—The Nyngan Solar Plant in New South Wales has successfully made it through the last decisive step of its early days of operation.
However, the Nyngan plant will be the largest solar PV plant in Australia and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere when completed. The Nyngan and Broken Hill plants will produce a total of 155 MW.
The Nyngan plant will be complemented by AGL’s second solar plant at Broken Hill, due to commence construction in mid-2014, with an expected completion date of November 2015.
The Nyngan and Broken Hill solar plants initially announced in 2013 were developed by AGL Energy. Together, they are expected to produce around 360,000 MWh of solar energy each year.
