Harvard University was told by an unidentified official on Trump’s antisemitism task force that a letter of demands had been sent to the university without authorization, the New York Times reports, citing two unidentified people familiar with the matter.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Harvard University is abusing its tax-exempt status as he escalated his fight with the institution. "I think Harvard is a disgrace," Trump told reporters.

On April 11, the Trump administration sent Harvard University a sweeping set of demands—among them that the university report international students to the federal government for violation of student conduct policies—ostensibly to curb antisemitism on campus.

Harvard University told the Trump administration that it would not make a deal after federal officials sent the school a letter threatening to withhold federal funding if the school didn’t make changes.

The Trump administration has threatened to revoke Harvard University's ability to enroll international students, ramping up conflict between the institution and Washington.
