The Los Angeles area wildfires have prompted over 100,000 mandatory evacuations since they began on Tuesday. Palisades Fire evacuees tell CBS News New York reporter Mahsa Saeidi about their experiences.

More than a dozen people are believed to be dead and many more injured as several fires broke out across Southern California amid historically dry and windy conditions.

The Eaton Fire – one of a multitude of wildfires incinerating the Los Angeles area – is still burning with little containment on Saturday as the Santa Ana wind event fueling the blazes is set to continue into next week.

The winds will come and go, with the strongest gusts expected early next week, especially next Monday night and into Tuesday, forecasters said.

Local firefighters were sent to Los Angeles County to battle the Eaton Fire this week. The fire burned over 14,000 acres of land, destroyed 972 structures, injured five and killed five people since it began on Tuesday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Updating maps of Southern California show where wildfires, like the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fires, are burning across Los Angeles.

Though the Palisades and Eaton fires are smaller, they rank high in structures burned. Combined, they would equal the second-most destructive California wildfire in history, with more than 9,000 structures burned, according to early Cal Fire estimates. A more detailed analysis of the total number of destroyed structures is still underway.
