Sexyy Red has apologized to one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s four children after reposting an AI-modified image of the civil rights leader. While the world honored Dr. King on his annual holiday on Monday,

"This is intentionally distasteful, dishonoring, deplorable, and disrespectful to my family and my father," wrote Bernice King in response to Sexyy Red.

While the situation surrounding the MLK image could have spiraled into further controversy, Sexyy Red’s apology appears to have diffused the tension. It’s a positive step for the artist, who has expressed a desire to refocus public attention on her music.
