The Red Sox plan to give 10th-round draft pick Kaleb LaFavor a signing bonus above his recommended $194,000 slot value. They will need to pay the tall right-handed high school pitcher more than the recommended amount to keep him from his commitment to the University of Iowa.

After selecting three position players on Saturday, the Red Sox focused on stockpiling pitching talent on Sunday. Boston used 11 of its 16 selections in later rounds on arms.

The veteran right-handed relief pitcher was recently designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox, setting off a sequence of events. First, Kahnle had to pass through waivers unclaimed, which he did.

Boston selected Schaffner with the No. 20 pick and outfielder Owen Hull at No. 67. Both are left-handed hitters out of UNC.

Day 1 of the 2026 Draft included the Red Sox's picks from Rounds 1-4, including Jake Schaffner at No. 20 overall. Day 2 begins Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET through the conclusion of the Draft, spanning Rounds 5-20.

After the Red Sox used three picks on position players during Day 1 of the MLB Draft, the team focused on pitching Sunday. The Sox used 11 of their 16 selections on pitchers, including four consecutive college arms in Rounds 5-8.
