The Texas Senate gave unanimous approval Thursday to proposals to cut property taxes by raising the Texas homestead exemption to $140,000, sending the measures to the House. Senate Bill 4 and Senate Joint Resolution 2,

The bill would increase the homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000, and $150,000 for seniors, which is the largest exemption increase in state history.

After claiming to pass the greatest property tax relief bill two years ago, which included loopholes allowing local jurisdictions to increase property taxes by close to 10%, the Texas Senate passed another bill again claiming it will reduce property taxes.
