While snow is expected to end by Saturday morning, roads could be slippery in the morning, and some additional lake effect showers could fall in the afternoon.

A winter storm system moved through the Pittsburgh area on Monday, dumping several inches of snow throughout the region in the process. Heavy snow began to blanket parts of the area early on Monday and continued to accumulate throughout the afternoon and the evening.

When all is said and done with this major winter storm, Pittsburgh, for the most part, will have dodged another bullet with the snow not making it as far north as previously predict.

First Alert Meteorologist Kristin Emery has more on how much it snowed in the Pittsburgh area on Monday. The NWS is warning SoCal residents to be prepared as a life-threatening, destructive, widespread windstorm is expected to sweep through much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Tuesday through Wednesday.

Monday's round of snow brought some of the highest snow totals in Fayette County, with five inches reported in the Leith-Hatfield area. First Alert: Today with snow lasting until around 7 p.m. Aware: Below normal temperatures all week.

The storm that has been predicted throughout the weekend will arrive early Monday morning. AccuWeather tells KDKA Radio that snowfall will begin sometime after midnight and continue into mid-day.
