The Buccaneers are clearly pleased with the return on their investment in Mayfield. Will they extend his contract that's still set to expire after the 2026 season?
The Buccaneers have asserted their dominance in the NFC South over the past four seasons, winning the division whether it’s Tom Brady or Baker Mayfield at quarterback. Todd Bowles enters his fourth season as the Bucs’ head coach (and seventh total) looking to continue as a perennial playoff team with a mix of veterans and young guys who could hopefully play right away.
Tampa Bay held its fifth day of Training Camp on Monday, and it was the first time that the Bucs have worn pads since January. Naturally, practice was a bit more aggressive, and both teams got their first taste of physical football as the regular season nears.
The team is doing everything they can to not only incentivize Mayfield this year, but sweeten the deal and make it clear they want to keep him around long term. Mayfield hasn’t had this kind of love from a team before so it could be the type of positive reinforcement that actually works. Even when the Bucs extended him after the 2022 season.
