Penn State is seeking a new head football coach after firing James Franklin during his 12th season. Several current head coaches, including Matt Rhule of Nebraska and Curt Cignetti of Indiana, are potential candidates. Penn State football is looking for a new coach for the first time in more than a decade.

Drew Allar’s career at Penn State is over. The senior quarterback suffered a left ankle injury with three minutes left in Saturday’s 22-21 loss to Northwestern and was helped off the field. Allar was tackled by Northwestern’s Mac Uihlein after a 1-yard gain on third-and-4 at the Nittany Lions’ 31-yard line.

The Lions have lost two consecutive games, the last one a 42-37 defeat at the hands of heavy underdog UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

The James Franklin era at Penn State is over. The university announced on Sunday afternoon that it has “made a change in leadership,” and confirmed that associate head coach Terry Smith will become the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
