Franklin Templeton filed for an exchange-traded fund on Friday that will track the spot price of Solana, reflecting the growing interest among asset managers to profit from the popularity of cryptocurrencies beyond bitcoin.

State-owned Banco Nacional (BN), the largest commercial bank in Costa Rica and one of the biggest in Central America with over $7 billion in assets, is launching a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund through its investment management arm, BN Fondos, according to local reports.

Franklin Templeton's foray into digital asset ETFs began with the launch of the EZBC spot Bitcoin ETF in January 2024, followed by the EZET spot Ethereum ETF in July of the same year. The EZBC ETF has attracted significant interest, with $443.8 million in net inflows and $692.2 million in assets under management.
