Edina had beaten Hill-Murray in last year's state title game for their fifth 2A championship in the last eight years. This time, the Pioneers — who had lost twice to the Hornets during the regular season — got revenge with a 5-4 victory.

Junior forward Cate McCoy scored the only goal the top-seeded Hornets (25-3-1) would need in the first minute of the third period to send them to a championship game rematch with No. 3 Hill-Murray for the big-school crown.
