In its 141-year history, Louisville Slugger has made more than 4,000 different bat models. And now, a bat that kind of looks like swinging a bowling pin.

The game sent shockwaves across Major League Baseball. Other MLB teams have since placed an influx of orders with Hillerich & Bradsby, the Louisville-based company that makes Louisville Slugger bats and created the torpedo bats used by Yankee players over the weekend.

So, what is a torpedo bat? A typical wooden baseball bat only gets wider from the handle to the barrel, while a torpedo bat gets wider toward the center of the barrel then tapers. The end shape resembles that of a bowling pin or torpedo.
