CAIRO (AP) — Doctors Without Borders on Monday halted its operations in Sudan’s famine-stricken Zamzam camp due to an escalation of attacks and fighting in the vicinity.

Doctors Without Borders, or Médecins Sans Frontières, has been forced to halt lifesaving aid in a famine-hit camp in Sudan as fighting escalates. As a result of the halt, more than half a million people are starving and trapped without medical aid.

The current escalation of attacks and fighting in and around Zamzam camp for displaced people near El Fasher in North Darfur is making it impossible for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to continue providing medical assistance in such dangerous conditions.

Doctors Without Borders has suspended all its work at the Zamzam camp in Sudan, where around 500,000 people live seeking safety from the nation's civil war.
