The Grizzlies said goodbye to Desmond Bane after five impactful seasons — and their first major offseason move signals a new era taking shape in Memphis.

The Memphis Grizzlies did something strange when they traded Desmond Bane on Sunday. Obviously, the deal itself was unusual. Rarely do teams ostensibly planning to contend trade away 27-year-old core players.

The Grizzlies will receive Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, a first-round pick swap and four unprotected first-round picks. The picks are for 2025, 2026, 2028 and 2030. A first-round pick swap in 2029 is also top-two protected.
