The New York Mets won the first game of their series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, improving their record to 64–55 while holding strong to second place in the NL East and the league's third wild-card spot.

Brandon Nimmo hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fourth for the Mets, who snapped a seven-game skid with just their second win in 13 games. Francisco Alvarez also homered twice and Brett Baty also went deep as New York moved within five games of NL East-leading Philadelphia.

ESPN's Chris Russo wasn’t impressed when Pete Alonso broke the Mets’ all-time home run record, calling the milestone “ridiculously low” and questioning why fans were celebrating during a rough season.
