Philadelphia City Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier said she believes the Sixers “owe the city an apology” after they suddenly ditched plans to build a new arena in Center City following years of contentious debate.

The Sixers no longer plan to move to Market East, but they’re still hoping to lure a WNBA team to the city in a new arena they’ll co-own along with Comcast Spectacor.

After years of planning and ongoing debate, the planners behind a proposal to bring a Sixers arena to Center City have backtracked. Instead, the team will get a new arena in South Philly, an official claimed.
