On Wednesday our friends from The Swan Sanctuary in Shepperton stopped by to ask if they could release a rehabilitated Kestrel in the park....obviously yes!!! The open space release gives the Kestrel the best chance of getting the lift it needs to fly away whilst still being monitored, and also means if it all goes wrong and it becomes grounded again then it's easier to locate and re-trap! This beauty was obviously ready, took a few seconds to come out of the carrier but was straight up and away

The battle for the nesting box is on again! Our camera has been picking up daily visits from barn owl, tawny owl and kestrel, all eyeing up the same nesting box. Almost unbelievably, after last year’s drama (when the stock dove chicks hatched, only to be eaten by the barn owls), the doves are back again and seem pretty focused on settling in 🤷🤦 | Castle Wild Camp
