This past September, the TSO performed Wagner's magnificent symphonic poem "Siegfried Idyll" as a part of an evening dedicated to the legendary Glenn Gould. In 1982, Gould gathered a freelance group of musicians together--including 4 current TSO members(!)--to record the piece in its original chamber version. Wagner's opera Siegfried premiered on this day in 1876! The third work in Wagner's epic four-part Ring Cycle, Siegfried's story picks up several years after the events in Die Walküre. Siegfried succeeded in taking the dragon's ring, and by using its power, learns about Brünnhilde’s enchanted sleep atop a mountain. With a kiss, Siegfried awakens his future bride...
