On this day in racing history on April 8, 1989... Sunday Silence romped in the G1 Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park for the legendary Charlie Whittingham with Patrick Valenzuela aboard! Sunday Silence went on to win the 115th running of the Kentucky Derby, the G1 Preakness Stakes and finished second to Easy Goer in the G1 Belmont Stakes. He was named Horse of the Year and Eclipse Award Champion 3-Year-Old Colt in 1989 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996. Check out more career stat
