Twenty years ago today, the worst bushfire in the ACT’s history devastated our community. Police were on the ground evacuating residents, rescuing those trapped by the flames, closing roads and managing traffic as Canberrans fled the firestorm. Officers were recalled to duty, leaving their family, their homes and pets to protect the Canberra community from the horror that descended. As the sky turned black, we came together as a community, with emergency services, volunteers and householders sup
