We just quietly got the revelation that Ultra Beasts were based on rejected Pokemon designs. Now, this doesn't seem to include second wave Ultra Beasts like Poipole, but for the ones introduced in Sun and Moon, this new information is coming from the game's lead Pokemon artist Yusuke Ohmura, who recently said on Twitter that he took designs that art director Ken Sugimori had rejected, then took the reasons behind those rejections and used them to his advantage for these alien Pokemon. #pokemonga
