The Pleiades also known as M45. This open Star cluster is about 430 light years away. The surrounding nebula is being illuminated by the giant blue stars within the cluster but is not physically associated with the stars. The group is simply passing some interstellar gas and dust and illuminating them like cars driving through the fog. The star cluster itself is about 8 light years across.
